I found this brand by accident and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since
I spotted a new brand. Say hi to Mekallia – a Nigerian fashion brand that just gets it. Strong silhouettes, culture, and a footprint that will stop you in your tracks.
I came across this brand randomly on the app and have been eyeing it ever since. I don’t know much about them yet, but I’m already excited to see what they come up with next.
Lately there’s been this movement on social media called Afro Modernist and @theafromodernist is the account behind it. Celebrating Black people in all aspects: artistry, modernity and anti-colonialism. And that’s exactly what I see in Mekallia. A brand that has captured its culture unapologetically, in a beautiful, minimal and powerful way – without needing to appeal to western standards.
As stunning as these pieces are, they come at an entry price that makes it possible for everyone to grab something for their wardrobe. I’ve already saved my next purchase.
